President Prabowo Subianto has reaffirmed Indonesia\u2019s commitment to supporting global efforts to tackle climate change and transition to renewable energy.<\/p>\n

The President made the statement following a bilateral meeting with the United Nations Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro on Sunday (11\/17).<\/p>\n

\u201cThe UN General Secretary expressed sincere appreciation for Indonesia\u2019s stance in various issues, particularly climate change. Indonesia strongly supports efforts in taking measures to reduce carbon emission and Indonesia has the intention, plans, and ability to make the transition to renewable energy,\u201d he said in his press statement.<\/p>\n

According to President Prabowo, Indonesia has high potential in developing green energy, including geothermal, hydropower, solar power, and bioenergy.<\/p>\n

\u201cIndonesia is currently regarded as an important country and [Secretary-General Guterres] expressed hope that Indonesia continues to take proactive and supportive actions,\u201d he said, adding that the UN Secretary-General also expressed appreciation for the measures that Indonesia has taken.<\/p>\n

The President pointed out that the meeting reaffirmed Indonesia\u2019s position as a strategic partner in the international scene, especially in climate change and other global policies, and stressed Indonesia\u2019s commitment to sustainable green energy transition as a contribution to global development.<\/p>\n
