President Prabowo Subianto Tuesday (11\/19) participated in the third session of the G20 Summit in Brazil, focusing on the theme \u201cSustainable Development and Energy Transition.\u201d<\/p>\n

In his address, the President underscored the critical need for global collaboration to tackle the pressing challenges of poverty, hunger, and climate change, while also advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and facilitating transition to green energy.<\/p>\n

\u201cYesterday, we discussed poverty and hunger, and we share a strong commitment to addressing them. These challenges impact developing countries, their sustainable development, and their energy transition agendas. The G20 must take concrete actions to help achieve the SDGs,\u201d the President said, while emphasizing the need for collective action among G20 members to promote sustainable development, particularly in addressing the impacts of climate change.<\/p>\n

The Head of State also explained that Indonesia is experiencing the direct effects of climate change, including rising sea levels along the north coast of Java, impacting hundreds of thousands of hectares of productive land.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis issue will exacerbate poverty and hunger. Therefore, for Indonesia, there is no alternative. We are fully committed to taking decisive actions to reduce global temperatures, protect the environment, and address the crisis,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

As part of Indonesia’s transition to green energy, the President outlined the country’s ambitious vision to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050 through initiatives such as expanding biodiesel production and transitioning coal-based power plants (PLTU) to renewable energy.<\/p>\n

\u201cIndonesia is rich in geothermal resources, and we plan to phase out coal-fired and all fossil-fueled power plants within the next 15 years. Our plan includes building over 75 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity during this time,\u201d the President said.<\/p>\n

As one of the countries with the largest tropical forests globally, President Prabowo Subianto stated that Indonesia plays a critical role in maintaining the balance of the world’s climate, while highlighting the need for a sustained commitment to ensure that Indonesia’s forests contribute to regulating global temperatures.<\/p>\n

\u201cIndonesia is dedicated to optimizing the potential of 557 million tons of carbon credits. As a country with the largest carbon storage capacity globally, we offer this opportunity to the world,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

The President also announced that Indonesia would contribute US$30 million to support international efforts and help bridge the funding gap in the World Health Organization’s (WHO) initiatives.<\/p>\n
