(Photo: Bureau of Press, Media, and Information of Presidential Secretariat\/DNS)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>President Prabowo Subianto Thursday (02\/06) at the Presidential Palace had a meeting with Minister for Investment and Downstreaming\/Chairman of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Rosan Roeslani to discuss strategies to strengthen investment in developing electrical vehicle industry in Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>In his press statement after the meeting, Rosan explained that Indonesia has a huge potential to play an active role in electric vehicle industry, given its abundant nickel resources and development in battery ecosystem.<\/p>\n<p>However, he also highlighted that to date the production of national electric vehicle remains limited.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have the potential from the nickel resources to the battery ecosystem covering the recycling process. However, the electric cars are not available yet. Meanwhile, we are committed to net zero emission policy in 2060, or even sooner as President Prabowo Subianto wishes,\u201d Rosan said.<\/p>\n<p>Rosan also mentioned that today Indonesia still relies on foreign companies\u2019 investment, such as Hyundai, BYD, and Wuling that have built their manufactures in Indonesia; yet, he emphasized that Indonesia should have a more significant role in this industry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur car production is around 1.2 million per year, and it is growing, and expected to reach 2.5 million in 2030. So, why can\u2019t we have a bigger role than that?\u201d Rosan said.<\/p>\n<p>Asked about the brands that have entered Indonesian market, Rosan stressed that the Government is not only focusing on foreign investment but is also evaluating the potential development of national electric vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe already have Maung.
