President Prabowo Subianto has called for the removal of import quotas, particularly for commodities crucial to the livelihoods of the people.<\/p>\n

In this regard, the President stated that he had issued directives to relevant officials to eliminate quota mechanisms that could impede the smooth flow of trade.<\/p>\n

“But one thing is clear, the Coordinating Minister, Minister of Finance, Governor of Bank Indonesia, and Chairperson of the National Economic Council were all present yesterday. I have issued directives to remove import quotas, particularly for goods that directly impact the livelihoods of many people. If anyone can afford it and wishes to import it, they are free to do so. We will no longer point out that only this is allowed, that is not allowed,” the President said during a dialog session at the Economic Dialogue held at Mandiri Tower, Jakarta, Tuesday (04\/08).<\/p>\n

According to the President, this policy is part of the Government’s strategic efforts to streamline bureaucracy and provide ease for business players, while highlighting the importance of creating an ecosystem that supports job creation and boosts national economic growth.<\/p>\n

“Entrepreneurs create jobs and are at the forefront. It’s fine for them to seek profit, there is no issue with that. However, we also ask that they pay their taxes properly,” he said.<\/p>\n

The Head of State also gave directives to Minister of Agriculture and Minister of Trade to open import opportunities for anyone.<\/p>\n

“Anyone can import. Whatever they wish to import, just open it up. Our people are also quite capable, right? Don’t set quotas and then designate only companies A, B, C, and D to be allowed to import. That’s not right,” he added.<\/p>\n

The President also paid serious attention to smuggling practices and obstacles in the customs sector, while expressing appreciation for the valuable input from business players and reassuring that the Government would take immediate action if any improper implementation were found.<\/p>\n
