President Prabowo Subianto, when opening the Economic Symposium held at Menara Mandiri, Jakarta, Tuesday (4\/8), emphasized the importance of national economic independence amid the global situation full of uncertainty.<\/p>\n

In his remarks, President Prabowo highlighted the major countries\u2019 policies that caused global economic turmoil and impacted developing countries, including Indonesia. Therefore, the President called on all stakeholders to revive the vision of the nation’s founders, namely building economic independence by self-reliance.<\/p>\n

“In fact, since a long time ago, the founders of our nation and I have urged that we must build our economy with the aim of achieving our own self-reliance,” he said.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the President said the national development strategies, currently being adopted under his government, focus on self-sufficiency in food, energy, water, and industrialization, with a \u201cpro-people spirit\u201d. He also added that all of these strategies were designed not just as slogans, but referred to Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution.<\/p>\n

“The foundations of the government that I lead are basically Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution. They serve not as mantras, slogans, or mottos, but as the basis for thinking,” said the President.<\/p>\n

According to the President, the Pancasila economy is an economy based on kinship and social justice. He emphasized that he refuses any economic models that let the common people lag behind.<\/p>\n

“The basis of our economy is kinship. No one should be left hungry in the country that has been independent for 80 years. No family should be left homeless. This hurts the sense of justice,” he added.<\/p>\n

The President also urged all parties to remain optimistic and believe in the power of their own nation. “I am proud of being the President of the Republic of Indonesia. We will control our wealth and we will manage it for the greatest benefit of our people,” he said.<\/p>\n

For the record, the Economic Symposium serves as a strategic forum for the government, business world, and economists to exchange views on the current condition of the Indonesian economy and the policy direction in the future. On that occasion, a number of ministers and heads of institutions gave presentations on the condition of the national economy.<\/p>\n
