President Prabowo Subianto Wednesday (5\/14) officially opened the 19th Session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of OIC Member States (PUIC) and Related Meetings, held at the Nusantara Building of the MPR\/DPR\/DPD RI, Jakarta. In his remarks, the President paid his respect for the trust given to Indonesia as the host of this session.<\/p>\n

“On this auspicious day, on the warm land of Jakarta, I would like to express my gratitude and pride that Indonesia is trusted to host the 19th Session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of OIC Member States, as well as to celebrate the 25th anniversary of this organization,” he said.<\/p>\n

The Head of State considers the importance of the existence of the PUIC organization as a forum for parliaments of Islamic countries in facing the more complex global dynamics. Established in 1999, according to the President, this organization was formed through a spirit of togetherness and a strong desire to fight for the interests of Muslims all over the world through parliamentary diplomacy.<\/p>\n

“This association of parliaments of Islamic countries was born from a shared awareness that the Islamic world needs a forum for togetherness between parliamentary institutions in facing global challenges and to defend the interests of Muslims everywhere,” he said.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, President Prabowo emphasized that this organization is more relevant amid a world experiencing geopolitical tensions, rivalry between great powers, and an increasing need for the voice of justice. He said PUIC can become a parliamentary bridge to strengthen solidarity, voice justice, and present solutions to complex problems in global life.<\/p>\n

“In this case, and in a world that is currently hit by polarization of rival conflicts between major countries, the existence of this organization is more important, relevant and urgent,” he added.<\/p>\n

On that occasion, the President also reiterated the basic principles of Indonesia’s foreign policy as enshrined in the Preamble of the 1945 Constitution. The principle is to participate in implementing world order based on independence, eternal peace, and social justice.<\/p>\n

“This is the moral compass and the main foundation of Indonesia’s foreign policy,” the President concluded.
