President Prabowo Subianto Monday (5\/26) attended a retreat session held in the Conference Room, Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (KLCC) after attending the plenary session at the 46th<\/sup> ASEAN Summit. The retreat session was a closed discussion among ASEAN leaders to discuss two main issues, namely the implementation of the five-point consensus on Myanmar and an exchange of views on emerging regional and international issues.<\/p>\n

During the discussion on the five-point consensus, the country\u2019s leaders also discussed the next steps for the ASEAN leaders’ decision on Myanmar. Regarding this issue, President Prabowo has held many discussions with leaders of other friendly countries and encouraged an inclusive peace process.<\/p>\n

Moreover, Indonesia and Singapore have agreed to ensure the implementation of the five-point consensus. This was conveyed in a bilateral meeting between President Prabowo and the Singaporean Prime Minister (PM) Lawrence Wong at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta in November last year.<\/p>\n

“Regarding Myanmar, we have agreed to ensure the implementation of the five-point consensus, especially an inclusive national dialogue and the delivery of humanitarian aid,” said the President at the time.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, during the meeting with Thai PM Paetongtran Shinawatra last Monday (5\/19) in Bangkok, the President said Indonesia and Thailand showed the same concern for the ongoing conflict. The Head of State also expressed his appreciation for Thailand’s role in finding a peaceful solution.<\/p>\n

“We also emphasized the importance of an inclusive national dialogue that can achieve peace and stability in Myanmar,” he said.<\/p>\n

The second topic in the retreat session included an exchange of views on strategic issues in the region and the world. In several meetings with friendly countries, Indonesia has encouraged strengthening solidarity and peace and shared prosperity in the Southeast Asia region.<\/p>\n

For the record, the retreat session is a forum designed to allow ASEAN leaders to discuss more deeply and strategically. The results of this session will be an important basis for formulating a joint policy direction.
