President Prabowo Subianto, has concluded a series of engagements at the 2025 BRICS Summit, held over two days on 6\u20137 July 2025 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. His presence at the forum marked Indonesia\u2019s official participation for the first time as a full member of BRICS.<\/p>\n

“Over the past two days\u2014Sunday, 6 July, and today, Monday, 7 July 2025\u2014President Prabowo Subianto attended the BRICS Summit,” said Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya in his statement delivered in Rio de Janeiro.<\/p>\n

Cabinet Secretary Teddy stated that Indonesia\u2019s participation in this year\u2019s BRICS Summit marked a significant milestone in the history of the country\u2019s foreign relations. \u201cThis marks a new chapter, with Indonesia officially participating in the BRICS Summit for the first time. And this is an initiative of the President,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

According to Cabinet Secretary Teddy, earlier this year Indonesia had been accepted and supported by BRICS member countries before officially joining as a full member. Previously consisting of five countries, BRICS has now expanded, with Indonesia becoming the 10th<\/sup> official member.<\/p>\n

\u201cOriginally, BRICS consisted of five countries, and it has since expanded\u2014Indonesia is now the 10th official member out of 11, with Saudi Arabia yet to formalize its membership,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe President has long upheld the principle that \u2018a thousand friends are too few, and one enemy is too many.\u2019 That is why Indonesia seeks to collaborate and join as many international platforms as possible\u2014BRICS being one of them,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Cabinet Secretary Teddy further explained that BRICS now represents nearly half of the world\u2019s population and accounts for around 35 percent of global gross domestic product (GDP).<\/p>\n

\u201cToday, there were officially 28 countries represented by their Heads of State or Government\u2014comprising 10 BRICS members, 10 partner countries, and 8 guest nations. Many more are lining up to join BRICS,\u201d he noted. \u201cThis reflects how Indonesia is increasingly being heard, acknowledged, respected, and needed on the global stage,\u201d he concluded.
