President Prabowo Subianto held a strategic meeting with state institution leaders and political party chairs at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Sunday (08\/31).<\/p>\n
The meeting occurred as mass protests continued in several regions, marking the significance of national political consolidation.<\/p>\n
State institution leaders attending the meeting were Chairperson of the People\u2019s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Ahmad Muzani, Speaker of the House of Representatives (DPR) Puan Maharani, and Chairperson of the Regional Representative Council (DPD) Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin.<\/p>\n
Fifth President of the Republic of Indonesia and Chair of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Megawati Soekarnoputri, Chair of\u00a0 Party of the Functional Groups (Golkar) Bahlil Lahadalia, Chair of the National Mandate Party (PAN) Zulkifli Hasan, Chair of the National Democratic Party (NasDem) Surya Dharma Paloh, Chair of the National Awakening Party (PKB) Muhaimin Iskandar, Deputy Chair of the Democratic Party Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono, and Secretary-General of the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) Muhammad Kholid also attended the meeting.<\/p>\n
In his remarks, President Prabowo underscored that political party leaders have taken firm measures against members of parliament who behaved inappropriately. This included revoking party membership, withdrawing certain entitlements, and imposing a moratorium on overseas working visits.<\/p>\n
\u201cStarting Monday, September 1, 2025, sanctions will be applied to DPR members who may have made misleading statements. The DPR leadership has confirmed that several policies will be revoked, including members\u2019 allowances and foreign working visits. The firm action taken by the political party chairs was to revoke the membership of those individuals from the DPR,\u201d the President stated.<\/p>\n
The President also underlined that legislators must remain attuned to public aspirations and put the people\u2019s interests first. He also stated that freedom of expression is guaranteed under both Indonesian law and international instruments, as long as it is carried out peacefully.<\/p>\n
\u201cMembers of the DPR must remain attuned to and side with the people\u2019s interests. We respect freedom of expression as provided under Article 19 of the United Nations International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and Law No. 9 of 1998.
