President Prabowo Subianto on Tuesday (23\/09) addressed the High-Level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution at the United Nations General Assembly, New York, the United States of America. He began his address by extending his appreciation to the Government of France and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for their leadership in convening the important deliberation.<\/p>\n

The President expressed deep sympathy for the unbearable tragedy happening in Gaza. \u201cThousands of innocent lives, many of them women and children, have been killed, famine looms, human catastrophe is unfolding before our eyes. We condemn all acts of violence against innocent civilians,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

President Prabowo emphasized that the international community are historically responsible for not only the future of Palestine, but also the future of Israel and the credibility of the UN. According to him, Indonesia continued its commitment to a two-state solution as the only solution for peace.<\/p>\n

\u201cTherefore, Indonesia once again reiterates its commitment to the Two-State Solution in the Palestine problem. Only the Two-State Solution will lead to peace,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe must guarantee statehood for Palestine, but Indonesia also declares that once Israel recognizes the independence of the statehood of Palestine, Indonesia will immediately recognize the State of Israel, and we will support all guarantees for the security of Israel,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n

In his speech, President Prabowo also noted the importance of the New York Declaration, which has provided a peaceful and just pathway towards peace. According to him, statehood must mean a real peace for all parties.<\/p>\n

President Prabowo also expressed his appreciation to the big nations, including France, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, and Portugal, which recognized the State of Palestine.<\/p>\n

Moreover, the President emphasized that the war in Gaza must end, and this should be an utmost priority for the international community. Indonesia asserted its commitment to active contribution, including sending peacekeeping forces under a UN mandate.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe must overcome hatred, fear. We must overcome suspicion. We must achieve the peace that is necessary for the mankind. We are ready to take our part in this journey towards peace.
