(Photo by: BPMI of Presidential Secretariat)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Government is committed to further strengthening reforms and downstreaming process of the national food sector in a bid to achieve food self-sufficiency and make Indonesia a global food estate.<\/p>\n<p>The statement was made by Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman in a press statement after joining a limited meeting on food security at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Thursday (10\/09).<\/p>\n<p>He said that advancement and breakthrough in the agricultural sector, including simplification in fertilizer distribution system, is a solid proof of President Prabowo Subianto\u2019s support.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt used to take 145 regulations to distribute fertilizer [from the factory to farmers]. As many as 12 ministers must sign the regulation, which should be acknowledged by 38 governors and 514 regents and mayors nationwide, to allow fertilizer to be distributed,\u201d Amran said.<\/p>\n<p>He went on to say that the process simplification has successfully addressed the issue of fertilizer shortage throughout the country. Amran added, the good news has received a positive response from the farmers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident Prabowo\u2019s support is tremendous. We also curbed 17 presidential instructions on the food sector. Regarding fertilizer, for instance, when we\u2019re on working visit throughout Indonesia, farmers used to tell us about the shortage and high price of fertilizer. Now, the problem has been resolved,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the Government is also working on a project to rehabilitate irrigation system, based on Presidential Instruction Number 2 of 2025 on Acceleration of Construction, Improvement, Rehabilitation, as well as Operation and Maintenance of Irrigation Network to Support Food Self-Sufficiency. Around 2 million hectares of irrigation system will be improved in an integrated manner.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, the acceleration program for agricultural tools and machinery (alsintan), the expansion of productive farmland, and the improvement of farmers&#8217; capacity in various regions are currently underway.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are accelerating the provision of agricultural machinery, land optimization, and the development of new rice fields. Our greatest dream is for Indonesia to become the world\u2019s food estate,\u201d he concluded.
