President Prabowo Subianto affirmed his commitment as a leader for its people by once again visiting flood-affected areas in Sumatra, on Wednesday (12\/31). This is the fifth visit of the President to directly monitor the disaster relief efforts and ensure that the needs of the affected residences are met.<\/p>\n

The President and a limited entourage departed from Jakarta to Raja Sisingamangaraja XII Airport, North Tapanuli regency, North Sumatra province. Upon arrival at 11:20 a.m. Western Indonesia Time, the President immediately continued the journey to South Tapanuli regency using a TNI Air Force Caracal helicopter.<\/p>\n

In South Tapanuli, President Prabowo is slated to directly inspect the construction progress of a bailey bridge built by TNI (National Armed Forces) personnel, in collaboration with the local community. This bridge has a strategic role as the main link between regions that were previously cut off due to the disaster. Thus, the rehabilitation is expected to accelerate smooth distribution of goods and people\u2019s mobility, as well as to improve access to basic services and to accelerate the recovery of the community\u2019s social and economic life.<\/p>\n

In addition to observing infrastructure development, the President is also scheduled to visit evacuation shelters for affected residents to ensure that affected residents receive proper services and that all assistance is distributed accurately and appropriately.<\/p>\n

During his previous visit to Elementary School SD Negeri 05 Kayu Pasak Palembayan, Agam regency, West Sumatra province, on December 18th<\/sup>, the President stated that the Government continues to work hard to ensure that disaster response is carried out swiftly and appropriately. The Head of State also expressed optimism that the disaster can be overcome together.<\/p>\n
