President Prabowo Subianto (01\/20) emphasized the importance of education as the key that determines a nation\u2019s success, in his remarks at the UK-Indonesia Education Roundtable forum, at the Lancaster House, London, the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn my view, education is the key to a nation\u2019s success. To become a successful nation, we must provide the best and quality education. That is my belief,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

According to the President, education serves as the most crucial instrument for alleviating poverty and creating a just society in the 21st<\/sup> century in which knowledge and technology develop rapidly.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe most effective instruments for realizing a just and fair society are education and healthcare services, both of which are inseparable. Furthermore, to provide education and healthcare, we need the best human resources,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

On that occasion, President Prabowo also shared various government policies on education, including the development of schools with dormitories for underprivileged students, with the main aim to alleviate poverty. To date, the Indonesian Government has been building and operating 166 schools with dormitories.<\/p>\n

In addition, the Government has also a plan to build schools with dormitories for high-achieving students and integrated schools for students from middle-class families.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey might not be the best achievers at schools but they do not come from lower economic background either. That is why I initiated this program,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The Head of the State added that the coverage of long-distance digital learning system has also been expanded throughout the archipelago, and such technology is used as a strategic measure to make a breakthrough in education sector.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll schools in remote areas will get access to the best teachers in all subjects of teaching. This is our strategy to make a leap of progress to close the significant educational gap in our country. We recognize our shortcomings,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Concluding his remarks, the President also affirmed Indonesia\u2019s commitment to welcome collaboration with international institutions, including leading universities in the United Kingdom to strengthen education, research, and human capital development in Indonesia.
