The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sugiono, emphasized that the Australia\u2013Indonesia Treaty on Common Security, which was signed by President Prabowo and Prime Minister of Australia Anthony Albanese, is the continuation of the Defense Cooperation Agreement signed in 2026. According to the Foreign Ministry, this Treaty focuses on strengthening the bilateral consultation mechanism in the field of security, rather than forming a military alliance or new security initiative.<\/p>\n

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, in a press statement at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, on Friday (2\/06), explained that this cooperation encompasses routine consultation mechanisms between leaders and the ministers of both countries to discuss regional and global situations affecting both countries. The Foreign Minister also emphasized that this cooperation is not a defense pact.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is not a defense pact, nor a military alliance, there is no provision whereby a threat of one country would be regarded as a threat to another, nothing like that. This is a consultation forum on the security situation in the region,\u201d said the Minister of Foreign Affairs.<\/p>\n

Minister of Foreign Affairs further explained that this security cooperation will provide several benefits for Indonesia as well as the region. Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized that Indonesia\u2019s interests, from maintaining sovereignty and territorial integrity to increasing people\u2019s welfare, require a stable, peaceful, and conducive regional environment.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo achieve our national goals and interests, a stable, peaceful, and conducive environment is essential. Without stability, there is no peace, and in the presence of tension and conflict, national aspirations, interests, and objectives cannot be realized,\u201d explained the Minister of Foreign Affairs.<\/p>\n

According to the Foreign Minister, cooperation and communication with countries in the region are important to address shared challenges constructively. Foreign Minister Sugiono added that such consultation mechanisms are a standard practice in Indonesian diplomacy, both at the regional and bilateral levels, similar to consultation forums Indonesia maintains with other partner countries.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn a situation like this, communication and collaborative cooperation are crucial. A shared understanding of the global situation is therefore necessary,\u201d said the Minister of Foreign Affairs.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe also have interests that we want to realize. Therefore, as conveyed by the President, we want to be a good neighbor.
