President Prabowo, on Monday (04\/20), chairs a limited meeting on the refinement of the giant sea wall development plan, at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.<\/p><\/div>\n

President Prabowo Subianto, on Monday (04\/20), led a limited meeting with several Ministers of the Red and White Cabinet to discuss the refinement of the giant sea wall development plan at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta.<\/p>\n

This national strategic project aims to protect Java Island\u2019s northern coastline.<\/p>\n

Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto stated that the giant seawall project plays a key role in protecting approximately 60 percent of industrial areas and more than 30 million residents in the affected areas. So, he added, the Ministry is urged to actively contribute, particularly through research and innovation in the universities.<\/p>\n

\u201cMany research findings on campus have been tested. One of them, in Demak, [near] Semarang, was successful. We are also asked to actively participate in that. Lecturers who have been researching on campus to support the acceleration and efficiency of the giant sea wall development are being asked to get involved,\u201d the Minister said.<\/p>\n

As a follow-up, the Minister stated that the Ministry will soon invite professors and experts with related expertise, including on land development and reclamation. He added that these academics will not only provide technical studies but will also be directly involved in the implementation team led by the Head of the North Coast of Java Management Authority (BPPOJ).<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Vice Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Didit Herdiawan Ashaf, who also serves as the Head of the BPPOJ, stated that the project is currently in the planning stage. The Government is currently conducting in-depth studies on various aspects, particularly those related to construction.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe plan made based on the calculations is still being finalized, as it relates to Indonesia’s resources. We will utilize them all. So, one of the main focuses we can pursue is leveraging environmental issues. So, we are addressing waste-related matters,\u201d the Vice Minister said.<\/p>\n

The Government affirmed that the effort to accelerate the giant sea wall project focuses not only on construction speed, but also on the quality of planning.
