President Prabowo Subianto affirmed the Government’s commitment to continuously improving national economic governance by addressing various practices that lead to national wealth leakage. In his remarks at the Plenary Cabinet Meeting at the State Palace, Jakarta, on Monday (07\/20), the Head of State said that the Government would not let such practices to keep occurring since it could harm national interest and affect the people\u2019s welfare.<\/p>\n
“There has been a distortion in our economy. There is a significant outflow of our wealth, amounting to thousands of trillions, hundreds of billions of dollars every year, through under-invoicing and falsified reports. Under-invoicing is the falsification of trade reports. Transfer pricing practices, smuggling practices, things that are truly unreasonable and unfair to our nation,” he said in his introductory remarks.<\/p>\n
The President also emphasized that these findings were not solely derived from Government data, but were also supported by various international institutions, including the United Nations (UN). He said this situation has long been understood by economic actors, both domestically and internationally.<\/p>\n
“This is not our data but international data. This is data from international institutions, data from the UN, among others. But the entire nation has felt it. All economic actors understand this, both domestically and internationally. The world’s largest palm oil-producing country experienced a shortage of cooking oil for weeks, something that was beyond belief,” he added.<\/p>\n
Facing this challenge, the Head of State emphasized that the Government has been mandated by its people to resolve strategic issues that have hampered the nation’s advancement, adding that various improvement measures are being consistently implemented across various sectors.<\/p>\n
“We are facing a very big problem, a vital problem. If we let this happen, if we allow hundreds of billions of dollars of Indonesian wealth to leak out, we can imagine what the fate of our nation will be,” he stated.<\/p>\n
On the occasion, President Prabowo also said that during his 18-month administration, many strategic issues that had remained unresolved for years had begun to show progress. The Head of State revealed that the Government had successfully resolved over one hundred important issues during that period of time.<\/p>\n
“We have been mandated to solve problems, and we should be proud that we have resolved many issues and difficulties during this period. Our latest count probably exceeds 108 or even 110 issues. We have resolved them in just over a year, 18 months of our administration,” the President stated.
