In a bid to strengthen Indonesia\u2019s role in promoting multilateral cooperation and building strategic partnerships, President Prabowo Subianto, on Saturday (09\/12), attended the 2026 BRICS Summit held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, the Republic of India.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s BRICS Summit, under the theme \u201cBuilding for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability,\u201d reflected the commitment of BRICS member states to strengthen resilience, foster innovation, enhance cooperation, and build sustainable development.<\/p>\n
Upon arriving at the South Plaza of Bharat Mandapam, the President was welcomed by an honor guard as a form of tribute to the visiting heads of state. His arrival was followed by several other world leaders, including from the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the People\u2019s Republic of China, and the Russian Federation.<\/p>\n
President Prabowo then proceeded to the main summit venue and was greeted by Indian Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi, the chair of BRICS for 2026. Both leaders shook hands and shared a warm embrace before having a brief chat, followed by a photo session.<\/p>\n
Afterward, President Prabowo joined other leaders in the VVIP lounge, where the leaders greeted one another and briefly exchanged views on various global developments and challenges before the main session.<\/p>\n
All leaders then moved to the Summit Hall to attend a restricted session themed \u201cInclusive Global Governance and Strengthening Multilateralism.\u201d During the session, PM Modi delivered opening remarks highlighting India\u2019s commitment during its 2026 BRICS chairship to place people\u2019s interests and humanitarian values as the foundation for strengthening resilience, innovation, cooperation, and sustainability.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am delighted to welcome you all to India. India\u2019s BRICS leadership is grounded in a people-centric and humanity-first approach. Resilience, innovation, cooperation, and sustainability have always been our priorities,\u201d the PM said.<\/p>\n
Indonesia\u2019s participation in the BRICS Summit also serves as a momentum for President Prabowo to convey Indonesia\u2019s position and interests on various global issues, while strengthening cooperation with BRICS member states. In addition to attending the restricted session, President Prabowo and other leaders are scheduled to visit the \u201cBharat Innovates\u201d Exhibition and the \u201cBRICS @20\u201d Exhibition.<\/p>\n
The event continued with a group photo session and a joint tree-planting activity. The first day of the 18th<\/sup> BRICS Summit in New Delhi concluded with a gala dinner attended by the leaders. Through President Prabowo\u2019s active participation in the summit, Indonesia reaffirms its commitment to act as a bridging force for diverse interests, strengthen Global South solidarity, and contribute to building a fairer, more resilient, and sustainable world order.
