President Joko Widodo receives courtesy call from Chairman of State Council of Oman (7\/3)<\/p><\/div>\n

Indonesian President Joko Widodo received a courtesy call from the Chairman of State Council of Oman, Yahya Bin Mahfoodh Bin Salim, on the sidelines of the 5th<\/sup> Extraordinary Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit at JHCC, Senayan, on Monday (7\/3). In the meeting, the issue of Palestine and Al-Quds Al-Sharif was still the main point.<\/p>\n

\u0093We have discussed the commitment between Indonesia and Oman to provide full support to bring peace and independence in Palestine,\u0094 President Joko Widodo said.<\/span><\/p>\n

The issues of Palestine which were discussed in the meeting are; first, support and solidarity for Palestine, greater role from Islamic countries in the process to bring peace to Palestine-Israel, and to economic partnership enhancement with Oman. Secondly, President Joko Widodo delivered that Indonesian Government wants to increase and strengthen the economic cooperation with Oman.<\/span><\/p>\n

On the economy, Indonesia\u0092s main export commodities to Oman are wood and <\/span>wood product<\/em>s<\/em>, electrical appliances, paper and paperboard, article or iron, textiles, man-made staple fibres furniture,<\/em> and food. Meanwhile, Indonesia\u0092s import commodities from Oman are the products of miling industry and mineral fuels. Oman also invests in Indonesia on agriculture and compressed natural gas sectors.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u0093On the aviation, a new route connecting Muscat-Jakarta is launched,\u0094 President Jokowi added.<\/span><\/p>\n

Through the direct flight, trade between Indonesia and Oman is expected to increase. In the meeting, the President also proposed Indonesian products which could be exported to Oman, including automotives, fisheries, constructions, furnitures, and other strategic products.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u0093It will immediately be followed up by related ministers in charge of these sectors. I think it was all,\u0094 President Jokowi explained.<\/span><\/p>\n

The bilateral meeting also discussed the cooperation of migrant workers between the two countries as well as invited Oman to cooperate through concrete initiatives to promote peace in the Middle East. As of February 2016, there were 31,611 Indonesian citizens in Oman and most of them are professional workers in oil industry, hospitality industry, banking sector, beauty salon as well as informal labors in domestic sector.<\/span><\/p>\n

Indonesia-Oman good relationship is reflected when the situation in Yemen got worsen on the first half of 2015, and Indonesian Embassy (KBRI) in Sana\u0092a, Oman, were damaged. During that time, the Government of Oman helped to facilitate the evacuation of Indonesians from Yemen to Indonesia.
