President Jokowi meets German President (18\/4)<\/p><\/div>\n

In his working visit to Germany, President Joko \u0091Jokowi\u0092 Widodo on Monday (18\/4) at the Presidential Office of the Federal Republic of Germany met with German President Joachim Gauck.<\/p>\n

President Jokowi told his German counterpart that besides cooperation on the economy, trade, and investment, the working visit would also focus on enhancing cooperation in vocational education. Both leaders also shared their opinions on the issues of peace and security in their own territories.<\/p>\n

On that occasion, President Jokowi said that Indonesia is a country where Islam, democracy, and diversity can live in harmony. As the largest Muslim population country, he added, Indonesia is able to develop democracy and tolerance.<\/p>\n

Regarding the issue of South China Sea, President Jokowi emphasized the urge to create stability and peace in the regions and said that there is no country that receives benefits from unstable regions.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, President Gauck considered President Jokowi as a progressive president who is capable of making Indonesia active in politics and economy. President Gauck also appreciated Indonesia\u0092s role to bring peace to the Middle East.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, the two leaders also discussed the issue of death penalty. President Jokowi asked his German counterpart to understand situation in Indonesia which is currently facing serious drugs problems. \u0093Around 40-50 Indonesian die every day due to drugs abuse,\u0094 the President said. Therefore, according to the President, the death penalty is still Indonesia\u0092s positive law.<\/p>\n

However, the President ensured that the execution is carried out with prudence and the Government guarantees the rights of the convicts.<\/p>\n

At the end of the talk, President Jokowi invited President Gauck to visit Indonesia to enhance and strengthen bilateral ties and cooperation between the two countries.<\/p>\n
