President Joko \u0091Jokowi\u0092 Widodo on Tuesday (31\/5) inaugurated the first Indonesian outlet of United Arab Emirates (UAE)-based retail major, LuLu Hypermarket, in Cakung, East Jakarta.<\/p>\n

The store is expected to be the gateway for Indonesian tropical fruits to enter the Middle Eastern market.<\/p>\n

\u0093I hope not only big enterprises that reap benefits from LuLu, but also products of small farmers such as soursop, durian, avocado, mangosteen, and guava. The presence of the store will bring the added value to our economy because the farmers and people also gain benefits. However, to select the good quality product from small farmers is indeed not easy,\u0094 President Jokowi said at the inauguration ceremony.<\/p>\n

LuLu group also sells Indonesian products and exports them to Asia and the Middle East.<\/p>\n

\u0093Among a total of 125 outlets, I notice that Indonesian products are sold in Abu Dhabi, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, and Kuwait stores. It will be great if they add the variety of the products,\u0094 the President said.<\/p>\n

President Jokowi added that LuLu Hypermarket selects the products to be exported. Hence, the President instructed Ministry of Trade and related institutions to disseminate information to farmers to improve their products\u0092 qualities and create export opportunities.<\/p>\n

There is actually a high demand on the products, for example mangosteen, but Indonesia has no supply, the President added.<\/p>\n

The opening of LuLu\u0092s first hypermarket in Cakung is a part of its expansion to invest US$500 million in Indonesia.<\/p>\n

\u0093With an initial investment of $300 million in the first phase, we plan to open 10 hypermarkets by the end of 2017, a central logistics, and warehousing facility in Jakarta. These projects are likely to generate more than 5,000 job opportunities for Indonesians,\u0094 Yusuff Ali M.A., Chairman of LuLu Hypermarket said.<\/p>\n

With an area of over 200,000 sq. ft., the new hypermarket is designed with customer convenience and provides a one-stop shopping destination for visitors with affordable prices.<\/p>\n
