Cabinet Secretariat Prepares Grand Design on Government Translators, Interpreters Development

Cabinet Secretariat through its Center for Government Translators and Interpreters Development (Pusbinter) is currently drafting Grand Design on the Development of Functional Official of Translators/Interpreters (PFPs).

Deputy Cabinet Secretary Fadlansyah Lubis Saturday (05/21) said that the drafting of the grand design aims to boost a qualified standard and professionality of PFPs that also go hand in hand with the mandate of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo to realize a professional and world-class state civil apparatus (ASN).

“As the fostering institutions for PFPs, Cabinet Secretariat continues to realize that mandatory by initiating the drafting of grand design on the development of Government translators and interpreters,” the Deputy Cabinet Secretary said in his remarks while opening the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on Functional Official of Translators/Interpreters’ Grand Design Drafting at the Alana Hotel & Conference Center in Bogor regency, West Java province.

The grand design, Fadlansyah continued, can be a long-term comprehensive basis for the development of PFPs to improve the quality of PFPs in all over Indonesia, adding that, through the grand design, PFPs who have excellent work performance are guaranteed to get appreciation for their achievements.

“It is expected that PFPs have reliable competence to carry out translation tasks for their leaders and organizations as well as for public in general,” he added.

On that occasion, Fadlansyah said that Government translator/interpreter is unique functional position as it demands high language and translation competence, broad horizon, passion, and confidence.

Fadlansyah further said that Cabinet Secretariat as a fostering institution for PFPs will continue to carry out transformation so that it will provide training for 229 PFPs in all ministries/agencies and regional governments throughout the country. Moreover, it is also expected that Cabinet Secretariat’s Pusbinter can deliver the development programs that support the national arrangement of functional positions that is more agile, flexible, and collaborative.

Furthermore, Fadlansyah expressed his gratitude to all participants who have participated in the FGD. He also hoped that through the discussion, required inputs and insights can be obtained in drafting the grand design.

Meanwhile, Cabinet Secretariat’s Expert Staff for Bureaucratic Reforms Ratih Mayangsari said that the grand design consists of six components, namely planning, implementation, empowerment, role strengthening, authority of the fostering institution, other supportive regulations, and how to implement the grand design written in implementation strategy.

For the record, the FGD was attended by other speakers including Ministry of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform’s Assistant Deputy for Recruitment and Human Resource Apparatus Aba Subagja, The Development Finance Comptroller’s Head of Auditor Development Center Iwan Agung Prasetyo.

Language academics and practitioners attended as speakers were Lecturer of the Faculty of Humanity of University of Indonesia Titik Pudjiastuti, Lecturer of the Faculty of Humanity of Sebelas Maret University Ida Kusuma Dewi, Lecturer of the Faculty of Humanity of Padjadjaran University Rasus Budhyono, Chairperson of the Association of Indonesian Government Translators and Interpreters Yanos Okterano, Chairperson of the Association of Indonesian Translators Indra Listyo, and the Association of Indonesian Conference Interpreters’ Vice Chairperson for Partnership and Career Development Inanti Pinintakasih.
