The Nusantara College Student Dormitory (AMN) is essential to facilitate students from various regions in the country to get to know different backgrounds, according to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.

“The dormitory will be predominantly occupied by students from Sabang to Merauke, from Miangas to Rote Island. For what purpose? To help them get to know one another better,” the President said after the inauguration of AMN Surabaya and the launching of Construction of AMN Manado and Makassar, in Surabaya, East Java, Tuesday (11/29).

The President went on to say that the residents of AMN Surabaya who come from various ethnicities, religions, and regions can unite and get along in harmony.

“Later on in the future, since we know each other better, know each other’s customs and traditions, and are open to each other, we will unite and live in harmony,” he said.

Previously, the Head of State also revealed that AMN Surabaya was inhabited by 410 students.

“Papuan students can make acquaintance with Batak students. Those from Java can get to know their brothers from Manado. Those from East Nusa Tenggara can get to know their Dayak relatives. Everyone will get to know each other. This is the big goal of the establishment of AMN,” he added.

On that occasion, the President also expressed his excitement over the optimism radiating from the residents of AMN Surabaya.

“I was beyond happy. When I entered the gate, the students seemed very optimistic. Their face looked so happy, bright, cheerful, and showed high optimism,” he said.

For the record, the construction of AMN is a mandate from Presidential Regulation Number 106 of 2021 on the Nusantara College Student Dormitory.

Based on the Presidential Decree, AMN will be built in six cities in five provinces, including Surabaya in East Java, Manado in North Sulawesi, Makassar in South Sulawesi, Bantul in Special Region of Yogyakarta, Malang in East Java, and South Jakarta in DKI Jakarta.  (AIT/UN) (RIF/LW)
