Indonesian badminton pair Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya lift the 2017 All England 2017 trophy in Birmingham, England, Sunday (12/3).

President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo congratulated Indonesia’s badminton Men’s Double Pair Gideon Marcus Fernaldi /Kevin Sanjaya for winning the title at the 2017 All England badminton championship; that keeping Indonesia’s gold tradition alive at the All England.

“Indonesia is proud of our Men’s Double Pair Marcus Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya for winning the #AllEngland title after beating Chinese pair–Jkw,” the President said through his Twitter account @Jokowi, after the match.

Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya clinched the All England Men’s Double title after beating Chinese pair Li Junhui/Liu Yuchen in two straight games 21-19 and 21-14 at the Final on Sunday (12/3) evening.

In the meantime, Minister of Youth and Sport Imam also took to Twitter through his official Twitter account @imam_nahrawi to congratulate the pair.

“Thank God, (They become) Champion!! Kevin/ Marcus #AllEnglandKompasTV -IN-,” Imam tweeted on Monday (13/3).

The 2017 All England title was the pair’s fifth Superseries title after winning Malaysia Masters, India Open, Australia Open and China Open.

In the Semi Final, Marcus /Kevin defeated Danish pair Mads Conrad-Petersen/Mads Pieler Kolding in a tightly contested match, 19-21, 21-13, and 21-17.

The title was the only title that Indonesian badminton players won at the All England this year. Last year, Indonesian Mix Double pair Debby Susanto and Praveen Jordan also won an All England title. (RMI/ES)  (EP/YM/Naster)
