President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo, Tuesday (08/13), visited the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) Training Center in Nusantara Capital, North Penajam Paser regency, East Kalimantan province to ensure that the field is ready to be used by the national football team next month.

“Yesterday, I asked the Chair of PSSI. It will be used in September because 2.5 fields are ready,” he said in his press statement following the visit.

The President pointed out that the 2.5 fields have varied specifications, adding that the facilities are more than enough to meet the training needs although there will be eight fields constructed in the long run.

“Synthetic fields, real grass, and the half field is meant for technical matters. In my opinion, 2.5 fields are more than enough even though the plan is to have eight fields,” he said, adding that the training center construction involves multiple parties, including the PSSI, FIFA, and the Asian Football Confederation.

President Jokowi further stated that the accommodation facilities for national football players and the fields will be ready at the same time, so the fields can be used as planned in September.

This visit showed the Government’s commitment to promoting the development of national football through the provision of adequate national team training facilities in Nusantara Capital. The infrastructure that continues to be developed and repaired is expected to boost Indonesia’s football achievements on the international stage. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/DNS) (DH/LW)
