Indonesia’s role and influence on the global stage are being more widely recognized, according to President Prabowo Subianto.

The President made the statement at a press conference after his visit to residence of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko “Jokowi” Widodo in Surakarta city, Central Java province, Sunday (07/20).

During his visit to Europe last week, President Prabowo met with the highest leaders of the European Union: President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and President of the European Council António Costa. According to the President, Indonesia received warm receptions from both EU leaders.

President Prabowo also talked about his trip to Belgium to meet King Philippe, stating that the King of Belgium made a special trip back to Brussels to welcome the President.

President Prabowo stated that diplomacy with personal approach among leaders is necessary to build mutual trust. He affirmed that Indonesia’s participation in various global forums is part of a broader strategy to strengthen its strategic position at the international level.

“We are known for not wanting to align with any particular bloc. We joined BRICS for our economic interests, but we also applied to join the OECD, a group of developed countries led by Western nations. We also applied to join the CPTPP, led by Japan and others. We also participate in IPEF (Indo-Pacific Economic Framework), which is also led by pro-Western countries,” the President stated.

“Thus, we are truly accepted by all parties. Indonesia respects all countries, Indonesia aims to maintain good relations with all nations, and Indonesia does not want to interfere in the domestic affairs of any other country,” the President remarked. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (RI/MMB)
