President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo accompanied by First Lady Iriana Joko Widodo inaugurated the new building for Maternal and Child Health Service at Wahidin Sudirohusodo General Hospital in Makassar city, South Sulawesi province, Friday afternoon (09/06/2024). President expressed hope that the facilities will improve the quality of health service for mothers and children.

“We hope that, by the establishment of maternal and child health building, we will truly be able to serve the mothers and children well, so that we can suppress, reduce, and eliminate maternal and child deaths in the future,” said the President.

On that occasion, the President appreciated the arrangement of the rooms and furniture in the Wahidin Sudirohusodo General Hospital building.

“Entering the Maternal and Child Health Building of Sudirohusodo General Hospital was not like entering a hospital. It was like stepping into a five-star hotel. The atmosphere, the room, the interior design, and the furniture were all like hotel’s. The lighting was also bright. Unlike what I often see in regional hospitals, rather dark and dim,” he said.

He explained that the new building owned by the hospital consists of eight floors and one semi-basement with 263 inpatient rooms and incentive care beds. The President added that the construction of the maternal and child health service building had cost Rp456 billion, plus the procurement of medical equipment of Rp239 billion, and human resource development of Rp17 billion.

“So that we all know the budget used to build this hospital is Rp456 billion. Plus, I have checked the medical equipment is also very high-tech, modern, and digital. Everything is very good. These all cost the medical equipment budget of Rp239 billion, which is not a small amount. Plus, Rp17 billion is added for human resource development,” said the President. (TGH/ABD) (AW/LW)
