Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya and Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi monitor the Gambir Station readiness for Mudik, Jakarta, on Sunday (03/16)

Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya and Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi visited the Gambir (Railway) Station on Sunday (03/16) to monitor its preparedness to anticipate the surge in number of passengers for mudik (annual Eid homecoming).

“The Gambir Station located in Central Jakarta is one of the busiest stations in Indonesia and will be one of the departure stations for Eid travelers. It is estimated that one million travelers will depart from Gambir Station during mudik this Eid,” Teddy said.

Both government officials reviewed various aspects, including the ticketing system, public facilities such as waiting rooms and prayer rooms, disability accessibilities, and the trains’ readiness in providing service to traveler during mudik.

Cabinet Secretary was also impressed with the boarding service using face recognition, implemented by Indonesian Railway Transportation, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (PT KAI), at the Gambir Station. He stated that the service could speed up the boarding process because passengers no longer need to show their identification cards and printed tickets upon boarding.

“The paperless boarding ticket service might save four to five seconds of boarding processing time, much faster than the manual boarding process which takes about 90 seconds,” he said.

Meanwhile, Minister Dudy Purwagandhi affirmed his commitment to working hard to ensure the preparedness of public transportation services during mudik this year.

“We want to ensure that facilities and infrastructures at Gambir Station are optimum. We must anticipate the increased number of passengers for the safety and comfort of travels.” he stated.

The Minister also emphasized the importance of the readiness of service and security personnel. He explained that the coordination among PT KAI, the Indonesian National Police, and other related institutions is crucial to ensure that the operations within the stations work well.

“A synergy among institutions is the key to ensure that this year’s mudik will run smoothly” he said.

Based on the Survey for Potential Movement of People during Eid 2025 published by the Transportation Policy Agency, the Gambir Station is one of the transportation nodes for main departure points, which was estimated to accommodate around 996.65 thousand passengers or 4.24% of the total national Eid travelers.
