Minister Calls on Digital Platform to Keep Digital Space Conducive During Campaign Period

Indonesia is set to hold the 2024 regional election on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 in 37 provinces and 508 regencies and cities.

To that end, Minister for Communication and Information Technology a Budi Arie Setiadi called on digital platform and social media organizers in Indonesia to keep digital space conducive during the campaign period.

“Let us work together to ensure a regional election that is conducive, safe, and peaceful in order to create a meaningful and high-quality democracy,” Budi Arie Setiadi said during the Peaceful Regional Election Declaration 2024 and Anti Hoax Campaign in Media Center of Communication Ministry, Central Jakarta, Thursday (10/03).

According to the Minister, the campaign period will be a crucial moment to maintain a democratic and conducive digital space, while also fostering a sense of happiness.

“The campaign period began on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 to Saturday, November 23, 2024. Please keep in mind that the global community is closely watching our democracy,” he said, adding that a peaceful 2024 regional election is part of the Government’s efforts to enhance democratic, political, and digital literacy among the people by promoting the spirit of Peaceful Regional Election 2024, be it in physical or digital spaces.

The declaration includes three key commitments for realizing a Peaceful Regional Election in 2024: full commitments to campaigning, ensuring a conducive and peaceful digital space, and maintaining these conditions throughout the entire Regional Election 2024 process.

“Additionally, there is a full commitment to strictly eradicate all forms of negative content on the internet that violate regulations, especially hoax contents on Regional Election,” Minister Budi Arie said.

The Minister also stated that the declaration emphasizes efforts to foster cooperation with people from various elements of society, including religious figures and social figures, media, academics, civil society organizations, communities, social media influencers, and other social elements to ensure a collaborative Regional Election 2024.
