President Prabowo Leads Military Funeral of 6th Vice President Try Sutrisno

President Prabowo leads the military funeral of the 6th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia Try Sutrisno at the Kalibata National Heroes Cemetery in Jakarta, on Monday (03/02).

President Prabowo Subianto led the military funeral of the 6^th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia Try Sutrisno at the Kalibata National Heroes Cemetery in Jakarta, on Monday (03/02).

The late Try Sutrisno passed away at the age of 90 at the Gatot Soebroto Army Central Hospital (RSPAD) on Monday morning at 06.58 Western Indonesian Time (WIB).

At around 13.30 WIB, the body of the late Try Sutrisno arrived at the Kalibata cemetery after being handed over by the family to the state at the Sunda Kelapa Mosque, Jakarta. The handover was carried out by family representatives and received by the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) Commander General Agus Subiyanto, who represented the state at the funeral service.

President Prabowo walked behind the coffin, which was covered by the Indonesian flag and carried out by the TNI soldiers to the final resting place.

The ceremony began with a report from the ceremony commander Colonel Inf. Benny Angga to President Prabowo, who acted as the ceremony inspector. It was followed by the reading of a brief biography of the late Try Sutrisno. Then, the President led the solemn recitation of the Apel Persada (a final respect and appreciation by the state [and/or other related agencies] for the body and soul and services of the deceased which are returned to the motherland/persada Ibu Pertiwi).

“I, the President of the Republic of Indonesia, on behalf of the state, nation, and the Indonesian National Defense Forces, hereby dedicate to the Motherland the body, soul, and services of the late Try Sutrisno, the 6^th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia for the period of 1993-1998, Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces for the period of 1988-1993, son of the late Mr. Subandi,” the President said.

“Hopefully, the path of devotion he took can be an example for us all, and his soul will rest in the best place, at the side of the Almighty God,” he added.

The late Try Sutrisno was then lowered into the grave accompanied by military honors amid a gentle drizzle. Afterward, the family scattered flowers at the grave. President Prabowo then began symbolically filling the grave. The ceremony continued with the laying of wreaths by the President and the family.

Also present during the funeral ceremony were Vice President Gibran Rakabuming, the 6^th President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, the 10^th and 12^th Vice President Jusuf Kalla and his spouse Mrs. Mufidah Jusuf Kalla, the 11^th Vice President Boediono and his spouse Mrs. Herawati Boediono, and the spouse of the 9^th Vice President Mrs. Hasmaniah Haz.
