New Chairperson of Ombudsman Hery Susanto, Friday (04/10), affirmed a strong commitment to carrying out the institution’s duties, functions, and authority following his inauguration at the State Palace in Jakarta.

“The nine of us (members of Ombudsman) will unite to fulfil our duties and functions, and exercise our authority,” he said while stressing that the oath-taking gave momentum to optimizing the role of public service oversight.

Hery pointed out that in performing their duties, the Ombudsman would put internal enhancement as the top priority, given the need to improve multiple aspects within the organization, from institutional structure to budget support.

“There are still many issues within our organization that must be fixed, including structure, human resources, and budgets. For this matter, Ombudsman is rather distant from the Government,” he said.

Therefore, the newly inaugurated official stated that the Ombudsman would continue to strengthen synergy with the Government.

“As we are seen to be distant from the Government, we will align with the Government’s priority programs, namely the Asta Cita (Eight Goals), to ensure optimal implementation,” he said.

Hery also highlighted the importance of monitoring various priority programs whose benefits have not yet entirely reached the public, adding that the Ombudsman is committed to making Government programs more accessible to the public through monitoring and assistance functions.

“We will bring these Government programs closer to the public and ensure that they are implemented to the highest standard. Therefore, the Ombudsman’s assistance is essential to ensure that the Government’s beneficial programs effectively reach the public,” he remarked. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (DH/AW)
