President Prabowo Subianto, Saturday (12/20), underscored the importance of cleanliness and environmental management as part of a sustainable national development strategy.
“One of the best sources of foreign exchange is tourism. How can we expect foreign tourists to come to Indonesia if our cities are slum-like and our villages are not clean?” President Prabowo said at the Mass Signing of Agreements for 50,030 People’s Housing Credits–Prosperous Housing Financing Liquidity Facility and the 2025 Key Handover Ceremony, at Pondok Banten Indah in Serang city, Banten province.
The President stressed that cleanliness must be a shared priority, starting from village levels to provincial ones. According to him, cities across the country must be clean, green, and attractive to provide comfort for residents while enhancing the nation’s image.
Furthermore, the President shared his plan to call together all the regional heads after the new year celebrations to hold brainstorming sessions and make concrete steps in spatial management. In the process, the President calls for the involvement of academic societies, especially those from architecture faculties, in the regional governments’ efforts to formulate master plans for the development of clean, beautiful, and sustainable cities, including provincial and regency capital cities.
“I hope that every province and every regency/municipality have an architecture team. Call on all experts from architecture faculties to help regents, mayors, and governors to develop master plans for provincial capitals, regency capitals, cities, and so on. Please create master plans for clean, beautiful, and green cities. The impact will be extraordinary,” he added.
On the occasion, the Head of State also expressed optimism that well-planned urban development would have a significant impact on regional progress and public welfare. The President also conveyed his vision of making Indonesia a beautiful and comfortable country for all its people.
“We will transform Indonesia into ‘the beautiful Indonesia.’ I was once told by one of my teachers that the task of a leader is actually very simple: to make ordinary people able to laugh and smile. That means they are living decent lives,” the President concluded. (BPMI Presidential Secretariat) (GWH/TM)
