President Prabowo Subianto Calls for Stronger Global South Voice in Shaping Global Development

President Prabowo Subianto Sunday (09/13) underscored the importance of strengthening the voice of the Global South in shaping the direction of global development.

According to him, BRICS plays a strategic role in uniting and strengthening the voice of the Global South in shaping the future.

“A future in which resilience safeguards development; innovation expands opportunities; cooperation delivers tangible results; and sustainability translates into prosperity for both present and for future generations,” the President said during the open plenary session of the 2026 BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, India.

The President added that over the next four years, the international community will reach 2030, which is the target year for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

He added that countries around the world have made commitments to eradicate poverty, protect the planet, and build stronger institutions.

“This commitment remains unwavering. We must continue to look beyond 2030,” the President said.

According to the Head of State, the 2030 Agenda is not simply about meeting targets within a fixed timeframe.

More importantly, he said it should help ensure that developing countries assume their rightful place in the global order.

“This agenda is intended to bring developing countries to their rightful place, deliver peace and prosperity to our people, and give them a greater role in shaping the global order,” he said.

“Therefore, it is only appropriate that the countries of the Global South have their voices heard, not only in accelerating the 2030 Agenda, but also in shaping the direction of their future,” the President concluded. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (FI/MEP)
