President Prabowo Subianto Saturday (09/12) took part in a joint tree-planting ceremony with the leaders of BRICS member countries as part of the BRICS 2026 Summit at the Nataraj Statue area, Bharat Mandapam, Republic of India.

Prior to the planting, President Prabowo and the BRICS leaders first posed for a group photograph. During the session, President Prabowo was seen standing next to President of the Arab Republic of Egypt Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.

Afterwards, the President and the BRICS leaders took part in the planting of banyan trees. The tree, which is India’s national tree, is known for its strong roots that symbolizes longevity, resilience, and immortality.

At the designated planting site, President Prabowo and the BRICS leaders took a shovel and poured soil from a jute sack onto a banyan tree sapling.

Afterward, President Prabowo took a watering can that had been prepared to continue the planting ceremony. By pouring an adequate amount of water, the Head of State watered the newly planted banyan sapling as part of the symbolic joint tree-planting ceremony with the leaders of BRICS member countries.

The planting of the banyan tree was not only part of the joint agenda, but also conveyed a message about the importance of safeguarding environmental sustainability. Given the banyan tree’s ability to grow to a large size and live for a long time, the planting can serve as a symbol of hope for the growth of sustainable cooperation that will bring benefits to communities.
