Prabowo Subianto officiated the operation of 1,061 Red and White Village/Subdistrict Cooperatives (Koperasi Desa/Kelurahan Merah Putih or KDKMP) across East Java and Central Java provinces at the Red and White Village Cooperatives of Nglawak village, Kertosono district, Nganjuk regency, East Java province, on Saturday (5/16). The initiative is part of the Government’s efforts to strengthen villages and subdisctricts’ community-based economies through the development of productive and integrated cooperatives.
The 1,061 KDKMP units that officially began operations consist of 530 cooperatives in East Java province spread across seven regencies, and 531 cooperatives in Central Java province distributed across eight regencies/cities. These cooperatives are expected to drive local economic growth while also strengthening national food security at the village level.
Upon arriving at the venue, President Prabowo first inspected the facilities of the cooperative in Nglawak village, accompanied by several cabinet ministers. During the inspection, the President inspected the cooperative’s operational readiness, including food distribution systems, agricultural product management, and infrastructure support for empowering rural communities.
Following the inspection, the inauguration ceremony began with the singing of the Indonesian national anthem, Indonesia Raya, followed by a joint prayer. The event was held in a solemn atmosphere and attended by ministers of the Red and White Cabinet, personnel of the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) and National Police (Polri), regional leaders, and representatives of cooperatives from various regions.
Coordinating Minister for Food Security Affairs Zulkifli Hasan stated in his report that the inauguration was not merely about opening physical buildings, but about providing an instrument of economic justice for rural communities across Indonesia. According to Zulkifli Hasan, KDKMP represents the implementation of a constitutional economy in which the state ensures that the people become both the main actors and the primary beneficiaries of development.
“This is the embodiment of a constitutional economy. The state is present not for a select few groups, but to ensure that the people become the main actors and primary beneficiaries of development. That has always been the President’s directive to us,” said Minister Zulkifli Hasan.
In his remarks, President Prabowo emphasized that this event marked a historic milestone for Indonesia. According to the President, the initiative is a significant achievement because, for the first time, the Government has successfully inaugurated more than a thousand fully operational cooperatives within a relatively short period of time.
“Today is an important day, a historic milestone. I believe that even in other countries, and certainly in the history of our own nation, it would be difficult to find a government inaugurating the operations of more than a thousand cooperatives complete with physical buildings, warehouses, systems, goods, personnel, and logistics elements such as trucks, pickup vehicles, and three-wheeled vehicles. I believe today is [a] very important [day],” said the President.
President Prabowo also highlighted the rapid development of the program, noting that it has been realized in less than one year since the initial concept was designed. Physical construction of the cooperatives reportedly only began around November 2025, and within approximately seven months the Government has succeeded in operationalizing 1,061 cooperatives.
“In seven months, we managed to operationalize 1,061 cooperatives. However, as reported earlier by the Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs, physically more than 9,000 [KDKMP] are ready, 9,000 buildings, 9,000 warehouses, and 9,000 systems. I believe this is an achievement for the Indonesia,” concluded President Prabowo. (Bureau of Press, Media, and Information of the Presidential Secretariat) (TCUD/MMB)
