President Prabowo: People’s School Brings New Hope to Indonesian Children
Sekolah Rakyat (People’s School) represents a new hope for Indonesian children, according to President Prabowo Subianto.
The President made the statement in his address to thousands of teachers and principals of Sekolah Rakyat at Jakarta International Expo (JIExpo) on Friday (08/22).
“We have done what people have never expected. Today, 100 schools have been established and are already in operation. All of you seem gallant. You smile a lot. I see confidence in their eyes. I thank you. I am glad to hear the testimonies of several students admitted to this program,” he said.
President Prabowo underscored that the program was initiated due to concerns about the situation of some people who are still struggling to enjoy the true meaning of independence, adding that Sekolah Rakyat—an education program aimed at students from low-income families—is the key to manifesting independence for all Indonesian people, especially in education access.
“We began to see hope. We have seen the light of children who may have been worried about the future,” he said.
The President also asked the teachers and principals of Sekolah Rakyat to continue carrying out the noble duty of educating the nation’s next generation.
“Educate the students. Educate them well. Give them hope, help them, make them happy. Do not make them pessimistic. Make them happy. The Indonesian nation must be brave and happy,” he said.
On that occasion, the President further expressed appreciation to all ministries and Government institutions, including the Indonesian National Defense Forces (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri), that have supported the program.
The President also pointed out that the Government has made efforts to enhance education in Indonesia, including by improving schools in the regions.
“We will achieve the aspirations of our nation. Never hesitate, never surrender, never get discouraged, never belittle our own leaders. Never insult our own parents,” he said.
President Prabowo closed his remarks by reminding students of the importance of respecting parents and teachers as a character building foundation of Indonesian children.
“Respect your parents, love your parents, kiss your mother’s feet. You must never feel inferior because your father works hard. You must never be sad because your parents have not prospered yet. They work hard for you. Respect your parents, love your parents, respect your teachers,” he said. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (DH/TM)
