In commemoration of the 81st anniversary of Indonesian Independence Day, President Prabowo Subianto Sunday (08/16) led a ceremony to pay tribute to the nation’s fallen heroes at Kalibata National Heroes Cemetery in Jakarta.

Upon arrival at the cemetery, the President was welcomed by Vice President Gibran Rakabuming, Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf, and Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin.

From the main gate, the President headed to the Heroes Monument after receiving a report from the ceremony officer to begin the ceremony at 23:45 local time. The President laid a wreath to pay respects to the fallen heroes.

Afterward, the President asked all the participants to observe a moment of silence and offer prayers to the heroes who fell in the fight for national independence, sovereignty, and dignity.

“Let us bow our heads to honor the service and spirits of the heroes who sacrificed their lives and bodies for the independence and honor of our nation. Let the moment of silence begin,” he said.

The tribute went on with the playing of the “Last Post” trumpet, marking the end of the ceremony.

Also attending the ceremony were leaders of state institutions, several members of the Red-and-White Cabinet, Commander of the Indonesian National Defense Forces Agus Subiyanto, and Chief of the Indonesian National Police Listyo Sigit Prabowo. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (DH/MMB)
