President Prabowo, UN Secretary-General Hold Bilateral Meeting, Discuss Synergy to Address Global Challenges

President Prabowo Subianto, Monday (9/22), held a bilateral meeting with the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General António Guterres on the 27th floor of the UN Secretariat Building in New York, the United States. Upon arriving at the venue, President Prabowo was greeted by the UN Secretary-General Guterres. The two leaders then took a group photo.

The meeting took place after President Prabowo delivered a speech at the High-Level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono said during the meeting that President Prabowo emphasized the importance of global solidarity in maintaining global stability and peace. The Head of State also encouraged joint efforts to promote sustainable development and strengthen the role of developing countries in the multilateral system.

“During the meeting, he conveyed that Indonesia remains committed to supporting the multilateral system and believes that the UN is an organization that should be strengthened to maintain world peace,” said Minister Sugiono in his statement.

Furthermore, the two leaders discussed several strategic issues, including Indonesia’s commitment to supporting a peaceful resolution of the Palestinian conflict through a two-state solution and full support for the UN in carrying out its mandate. The Head of State also emphasized Indonesia’s readiness to contribute to peacekeeping missions, particularly regarding the situation in Gaza.

“He also expressed his support for the UN in carrying out its duties, including regarding the situation in Gaza. If peace and a ceasefire are achieved, Indonesia has expressed its willingness and support to deploy peacekeeping forces there,” the Minister added.

During the meeting, President Prabowo was accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono, Minister of Human Rights Natalius Pigai, Minister of Investment and Downstream Industry/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board Rosan Roeslani, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and Indonesia’s Permanent Representative to the UN in New York Umar Hadi.

Meanwhile, the UN Secretary-General was accompanied by Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, Under-Secretary-General for Policy at the Executive Office of the Secretary-General (EOSG) Guy Ryder, Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo, Director of the Sustainable Development Unit Karima El Korri, and EOSG Political Unit Officer Hirofumi Goto.
