President Prabowo, Singapore’s President Tharman Discuss New Phase of Indonesia-Singapore Relations

President Prabowo Subianto, Monday (06/16), made a courtesy call with President of Singapore Tharman Shanmugaratnam at the Parliament House, Singapore, as a main agenda in President Prabowo’s state visit to the country.

The courtesy call began with introduction of official delegates of both countries. Joining the Indonesian delegates were Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar, Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono, Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian, and Minister of Investment and Downstream Rosan Roeslani.

After the introduction, both heads of state had a commemorative photo at the foyer of Temasek Suite, reflecting the symbol of friendship and closeness between the two countries.

President Tharman, in his introductory remarks, said that the visit of President Prabowo is an important moment to discuss a new phase in the bilateral relationship between Indonesia and Singapore. He mentioned that the cooperation between the two countries has now entered a new level and is on a very promising path.

“We will hold a meeting with Prime Minister Wong to discuss the next phase of our bilateral relationship. In fact, new projects are already underway and have already reached a new level, and we are very much looking forward to it. So, I am looking forward to it,” President Tharman said.

He also underscored an upward trend of Singapore’s private investment sector in Indonesia, which has continued to grow over the past years. He also welcomed the increasing diversification of Singapore’s investment in various key sectors such as industrial zones, logistics, connectivity, data centers, and renewable energy.

“In the first quarter of this year, we’ve seen remarkable progress. Several companies, one of which is a Singapore’s company, have invested in solar energy and low-carbon industrial zones,” he added.

For the record, the courtesy call took place in warm and amicable manners, showcasing the spirit of cooperation. Both leaders emphasized the importance of maintaining regional stability and promoting collaboration in various strategic sectors.

Also joining the courtesy call were Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman, Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore Suryo Pratomo.
