President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Wednesday (07/24) offered his sincere condolences following the passing of the 9th Vice President of Indonesia, Hamzah Haz, who passed away at the age of 84.
“Innalillahi wainnailaihi rajiun. (Verily, to God we belong and verily, to Him we shall return). Bapak Dr. H. Hamzah Haz has passed away at the age of 84 this morning. On behalf of the Government, the nation, and Indonesian people, I would like to express my deepest condolences,” the President said when paying the last respect to late Hamzah Haz in his residence in Matraman, Jakarta.
President Jokowi remembered the late Hamzah Haz as an exemplary statesman who showed great devotion to the nation and the state, not only during his term of office from 2001 to 2004 but also in other roles he took on during his lifetime.
President Jokowi also performed the Islamic funeral prayer and prayed for the late Hamzah Haz.
For the record, the deceased would be buried at the family cemetery complex in Cisarua, Bogor regency, West Java province. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (RAS/MUR)
