President Prabowo Subianto held a limited cabinet meeting with several members of the Red and White Cabinet at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Wednesday (7/30). The meeting focused on various issues, particularly the widespread violations of government standards concerning the sale of premium and medium-grade rice in the market.

Minister of Agriculture Amran Sulaiman announced that an inspection of 268 rice brands revealed that 212 brands did not meet the Government’s quality standards. He highlighted that the levels of broken rice content were alarmingly high, far exceeding regulatory limits.

“Out of the 268 brands we examined, 212 did not comply with the Government’s standards. Some of these brands contained broken rice of 30%, 35%, 40%, and even 50%. Therefore, they fail to meet the required standards,” the Minister stated to reporters after the meeting.

The Minister further explained that the Government will take strong actions against those who violate the law.

“We have formally reported this to Chief of the National Police and the Attorney General. After thorough re-examination, the data is the same and the findings are still the same. Law enforcement officers are committed to following up on all aspects that violate the regulations,” he asserted.

The Minister also stated that President Prabowo’s directive was clear, the legal process must continue. “The President ordered to follow up. We will have another limited coordination meeting to discuss this further,” the Minister concluded.  (Bureau of Press, Media, and Information of Presidential Secretariat) (RY/MMB)
