VP Ma’ruf Amin Orders KPI to Follow Up Public Input for Broadcasting Programs

Vice President Ma’ruf Amin has ordered the Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) to follow up on public input for broadcasting programs that deviate from cultural and religious values.
The VP made the statement in his opening remarks at the 2024 National Coordination Meeting of the KPI and the 91st commemoration of the National Broadcasting Day, adopting the theme “Indonesian Broadcasting Grows Stronger with Harmony,” at Nusantara Hall I of the Indonesia Convention Exhibition BSD in Tangerang regency, Banten province, on Monday (06/24).
The VP pushed for the optimization of the duties and functions of the KPI and Regional KPIs in overseeing broadcasting across the country.
“Keep monitoring and overseeing broadcasting by adhering to the Broadcasting Codes of Conduct and Broadcasting Program Standards. Ensure that public input on broadcasting programs that contradict religious and cultural values is followed up,” he said.
The VP also ordered the KPI to enhance dissemination and education to the public about the importance of obtaining good and beneficial information so as to avoid hoaxes.
“In simultaneous regional elections, I hope the KPI, Regional KPIs, and television and radio media can provide education on the implementation and results development of the elections through good, positive, and neutral broadcasting,” he said.
In addition, the VP instructed the KPI, Regional KPIs, and other broadcasting institutions to adapt to current challenges and dynamics and maintain a fair and balanced national information order despite the rapid flow of information.
The VP also underscored the importance of innovation in national broadcasting so that it can compete with rapidly growing new media.
“Improve KPI’s cooperation and collaboration with broadcasting institutions and other stakeholders. National broadcasting, both on television and radio, must regain a place in the people’s hearts as a credible main source of information. This is important for our national broadcasts to dominate the country,” he said.
The VP also ordered the KPI to maintain the role of broadcasting media as the supervisor of state governance while promoting the reinforcement of the Central KPI and Regional KPIs for more optimal implementation of duties and functions.
“The Broadcasting Bill must be aligned with the vision of a democratic country that upholds the national characters and values of Pancasila. KPI must have a stronger presence to perform its functions optimally, representing the public, maintaining national morality, and strengthening the country,” he remarked. (TGH/ABD) (DH/MMB)
