President Prabowo Subianto received Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Thursday (06/25). During the meeting, the President issued directives regarding the acceleration of development in several national strategic industrial sectors.

In his statement following the meeting, Minister Brian explained that the Government is currently accelerating the development of several national industrial sectors, ranging from pharmaceutical to automotive industries. “Many programs, such as those involving pharmaceuticals, pharmaceutical industry development, and development of national cars and motorcycles, etc. Those downstream industries can be accelerated,” Minister Brian said in his statement after the meeting.

In line with this acceleration target, Minister Brian explained that the Government is also focusing on the readiness of the human resources needed to support the development of the national industry. He noted that the President has instructed higher education institutions to produce graduates possessing the quality and competencies aligned with the needs of the strategic sectors currently under development.

“We have been tasked with ensuring that our human resources, our university graduates, can truly meet the workforce demands for substantial industrialization development. This includes minerals, aquaculture, extensive aquafarming operations to downstream processing,” he said.

Furthermore, Minister Brian emphasized that the availability of competent human resources must go hand in hand with the acceleration of industrial development. Therefore, his team will map out and calculate the demand for skilled professionals to prevent any gap between industry needs and the competencies of university graduates.

“Suppose we need a large number of electrical experts, yet the graduates do not match those requirements. We are therefore asked to calculate these needs and ensure they support effective industrialization,” he concluded.

President Prabowo’s directive reaffirms the Government’s commitment to building a national industrialization ecosystem that relies not only on investment and technology, but is also supported by an excellent, skilled, and competitive workforce, with the aim of realizing Indonesia’s economic transformation toward a developed nation.
