Indonesia Wins FAO Award for Food Sustainability and Self-Reliance
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Friday (08/30) at the State Palace, Jakarta, received the Agricola Medal award from United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).
The top-level award of the FAO was given directly by Director-General of FAO Qu Dongyu to the President.
Commenting on the award, the President said that the award is for all farmers in Indonesia. “We present this Agricola Medal to all farmers, to everyone that has actively contributed to strengthening the agricultural sector,” he said.
President Jokowi pointed out that the Government is obliged to ensure food availability and affordability for the people, adding that the sustainability program becomes one of the Government’s priorities.
“We are grateful that Indonesia’s agricultural sector during the pandemic recorded a growth of 1.7 percent, and in 2023 it contributed 12.5 percent to the national gross domestic product thanks to the role played by all national components in realizing food sustainability and self-reliance,” he remarked.
