President Prabowo, President Erdoğan Agree on Concrete Steps to Strengthen Bilateral Relations

President Prabowo Subianto paid a state visit to the Republic of Türkiye, which resulted in a number of strategic agreements, further strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
“We are committed to enhancing this cooperation. The meeting was held warmly, productively, full of brotherhood, full of friendship, and the wish to continue to bolster the partnership,” President Prabowo said in a joint press statement after a bilateral meeting with the President of the Republic of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, at the Turkish Presidential Palace in Ankara on Thursday (04/10).
One of the main outcomes of the meeting was the commitment of both countries to expand market access and remove trade barriers. President Prabowo highlighted the importance of economic power to boost the bargaining position of developing countries in the global arena.
“We must collectively develop as economic powers. Only with the power can our voices be heard in the world,” he said.
For this reason, President Prabowo stated that the two countries mutually agreed for the trade ministers to finalize the preferential trade agreement as soon as possible. This marked the first step towards the Türkiye-Indonesia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
In the investment sector, the two leaders also reached an agreement to finalize a bilateral investment treaty soon. President Prabowo also invited Turkish companies to participate in the development of strategic sectors in Indonesia.
“I also invite Turkish companies to partake in the development of the battery industry, renewable energy, defense industry, and high-end textiles. I welcome Türkiye to participate in the development of energy infrastructure in Indonesia,” he said.
The President also expressed appreciation for the contributions of Turkish construction companies in the development of 42 hospitals across Indonesia. He welcomed further cooperation in the health sector, including the joint production of vaccines. In addition, Indonesia and Türkiye are also aiming to establish closer cooperation in the defense sector.
“We also agreed to create an important joint venture between strategic defense companies of the two countries,” the President said.
On the occasion, the two leaders also exchanged views on global geopolitical issues and agreed to continue contributing to maintaining world stability and peace.
“We will continue to jointly support the independence of Palestine. We also support the stability in Syria and peace in Ukraine. Both parties agree to continue to support each other in striving for these matters,” the President said.
In the joint press statement, President Erdoğan also expressed his government’s commitment to further enhance relations across international frameworks such as the UN, G20, D8, and MIKTA. Türkiye also respected Indonesia’s position on the Palestinian issue.
“In the future, we will continue to work with Indonesia in terms of reconstructing Gaza and also in defending the Palestinian rights,” President Erdoğan said. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (FI/MMB)
