Presiden Prabowo menghadiri Musyawarah Nasional (Munas) XVI Ikatan Pencak Silat Indonesia Masa Bakti 2026–2030 di Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC), Jakarta, pada Sabtu, 11 April 2026.

President Prabowo attends the 16th National Conference of the Indonesian Pencak Silat Association at Jakarta Convention Center, on Saturday (04/11).

President Prabowo Subianto emphasized that Pencak Silat (Indonesian martial arts) is a fundamental strength of the nation, which not only builds physical strength but also shapes national character and identity. Pencak silat has a complete dimension, more than merely a sport or a martial art.

Pencak silat is indeed a sport; it is a martial art. But more than that, it reflects Indonesian personality,” said President Prabowo in his address during the 16th National Conference of the Indonesian Pencak Silat Association for the 2026-2030 term of office at Jakarta International Convention Center on Saturday (04/11).

The ultimate strength in pencak silat is not only in its physical ability but also in the depth of its knowledge and humility, including the bravery to protect.

“In almost all pencak silat schools, and I think in all martial arts around the world, all teachers teach the value of defending ourselves, our families, our villages, our people, and our nations,” he continued.

The President acknowledged its contribution to creating a resilient society. When there is a strong people, there is a strong nation, he added.

From a historical perspective, the President recalled the fight to address challenges from invaders for hundreds of years. During that period, although pencak silat was prohibited by the invaders, it had been part of the fight that should be continued.

“There was a time when pencak silat was banned. Then, at night, teachers taught pencak silat on the hills, mountains, and in mosques,” he said.

The statements have proven pencak silat as an intangible cultural heritage, which is more than just preserving traditions, but also as an instrument for shaping character, unity, and national defense amid global dynamics. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (RD/AW)
