Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf, and Vice Minister of Social Affairs Agus Jabo on Saturday (03/08) inspected the planned location for a school at the Pangudi Luhur Integrated Center (STPL) in Bekasi, West Java.

“This afternoon, I was invited by Minister of Social Affairs, Mr Saifullah Yusuf, to inspect one of the People’s Schools (Sekolah Rakyat) located in Ministry of Social Affairs service center, namely at the Pangudi Luhur Integrated Center (STPL) in Bekasi,” Cabinet Secretary said.

Cabinet Secretary and the Minister inspected the 16-hectare STPL complex, including classrooms, dormitories, dining halls, sports fields, places of worship, and other facilities.

Cabinet secretary stated that the People’s School program, along with the Excellent School program, are among the Government’s priority programs aimed at ensuring equal access to quality education for all Indonesian children.

“President Prabowo Subianto has highlighted the importance of education for all Indonesian children. One key initiative is accelerating the development of the People’s Schools for students from elementary to vocational high school levels,” he said.

In the meantime, Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf stated that the STPL Bekasi is ready to be one of the People’s School locations, though some additional facilities are needed to optimize the boarding school concept.

“Mr Teddy [Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya] has stated that the STPL is suitable for the People’s School program, with a few additional facilities needed,” the Minister said.

For the record, the People’s School planned at the STPL Bekasi is one of approximately 100 People’s Schools the Government is preparing this year. These schools will primarily serve children from low-income and extremely poor families, covering educational levels from elementary to senior high school levels. The goal is to provide equitable and quality education for Indonesian children, fostering an excellent future generation capable of breaking the cycle of poverty in the country. (HIM) (RI/LW)
