President Prabowo Subianto Sunday (10/26) attended the 47th ASEAN Summit held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), Malaysia.
Arriving at the venue at 8:20 a.m. local time, President Prabowo was welcomed by the Prime Minister of Malaysia and Chair of ASEAN 2025 Anwar Ibrahim at the KLCC park entrance.
The two leaders exchanged a firm handshake and a warm embrace, reflecting the close and friendly relations between Indonesia and Malaysia. They later posed for a photo before proceeding to the waiting area to join other heads of state and government.
President Prabowo and other leaders then proceeded to the plenary hall for the opening ceremony of the Summit. The Indonesian President was seated between His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah of Brunei Darussalam and Prime Minister of Canada Mark Carney.
In his opening remarks, PM Anwar said that 2025 would be a demanding year amid growing uncertainties and intensifying global tensions. Such challenges, he continued, would test not only economic resilience but also the commitment to cooperation and belief in the power of dialogue.
“Nevertheless, ASEAN remains strong amid such trials. Our strength lies not in uniformity, but in our shared conviction that respect and common sense continue to bind us together,” Anwar said.
On the occasion, President Prabowo and other ASEAN leaders signed a declaration welcoming Timor-Leste as the 11th member of ASEAN.
In addition, President Prabowo is slated to deliver remarks at the plenary session of the 47th ASEAN Summit adopting the theme “Inclusivity and Sustainability” in the afternoon and attend the retreat session scheduled for the evening. He is also set to participate in several related meetings, including the ASEAN-Japan Summit, ASEAN-India Summit, and ASEAN-U.S. Summit.
President Prabowo’s participation underscores Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening regional cooperation and solidarity, not only within Southeast Asia region but also with external partners. Through the forum, Indonesia reaffirms its determination to foster concrete collaboration among member states in addressing global challenges, enhancing connectivity, and improving the welfare of the peoples of ASEAN and its partner countries.
