The Government is currently finalizing a national internship program aimed at university graduates within one year of completing their studies, or fresh graduates. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that the national priority program is being finalized in coordination with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology for imminent implementation.
“The internship program is now being prepared by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology. One of the eligibility criteria is that graduates must be within one year of graduation. This way, fresh graduates can be accommodated,” Airlangga said after attending a limited cabinet meeting chaired by President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday (09/16).
Airlangga explained that the internship program will be open to all companies, both private enterprises and state-owned enterprises, and will be carried out through a cooperation scheme linking universities with the business sector.
“All companies can participate, whether private or state-owned, and there will be a link-and-match scheme between universities and those companies,” Airlangga said.
He further noted that the national internship program is targeted to begin in the fourth quarter of 2025 and will be implemented simultaneously across Indonesia. Participants will also receive compensation in accordance with the provincial minimum wage (UMP) of their respective regions. “[The compensation will be] in accordance with the UMP of each province,” he emphasized.
In addition, Airlangga stated that the government will cover the participants’ wages for a period of six months. (BPMI SETPRES) (AP/LW)
