President Jokowi Inspects Food Prices, Supply at Pontianak Market

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo inspected the supply and prices of staple food at Mawar traditional market in Pontianak city, West Kalimantan province, Tuesday (09/24).

The President said that the food prices at the market are relatively stable. He even mentioned that some commodities have experienced a decrease.

“For prices, I think they are relatively stable. In fact, prices of some items have decreased, such as shallots, which usually cost over Rp30,000, now drop to Rp26,000. Garlic is at Rp34,000, and chili at Rp60,000. Compared to other markets in Java [island], I think it’s quite similar,” said President Jokowi.

He added that the Government will continue to ensure the availability of supply and smooth distribution, which is important to maintain price stability in the market.

“The Government will manage the supply, ensure that supplies are available, distribution is smooth, and transportation is not hindered. I think everything will be fine,” he said.

On that occasion, President Jokowi also reiterated his apologies to the public, given that his term is coming to an end.

“I will complete my duties in a month. I ask for your forgiveness if, within the last ten years of my duty, I have made dozens of mistakes and shortcomings in leading this country,” he said, adding that this farewell is important for him to show respect and appreciation to the public who have supported his administration.

“Yes, it’s important to come face-to-face and to bid farewell and ask for forgiveness as I complete my duties,” the President remarked. (BPMI/DNS) (EST/MMB)
