Remarks of President of the Republic of Indonesia at the Opening of the 17th National Paralympic Week (Peparnas), October 6, 2024

Distinguished Coordinating Ministers, Ministers, Commander of the Indonesian National Defense Forces, Chief of the Indonesian National Police, and Acting Governor of Central Java Province, Mayor of Surakarta, and all ranks of Regional Leaders Communication Forum (Forkopimda) who are present;

Chief of the Indonesian National Paralympic Committee Mr. Senny Marbun;

Secretary General of ASEAN Para Sports Federation Senior Colonel Wandee Tosuwan;

Chairman of National Paralympic Week Mr. D. B. Susanto;

Athletes and officials whom I love, whom I am proud of;

Ladies and gentlemen, all Central Java people, especially the people of Solo whom I love;

Distinguished guests.

Greetings of sports!

This Paralympic week is special for me. This afternoon I flew from the Nusantara Capital to Solo for the opening of the 17th National Paralympic Week, specially to meet the athletes and officials. I am delighted to meet all of you tonight.

We should all be proud because Indonesian para-athletes have an extraordinary fighting spirit. They have accomplished astonishing achievements. In the ASEAN Para Games event, for example, Indonesia won the overall championship three times in a row, in ASEAN Para Games 2017, 2022, and 2023.

Therefore, let us make National Paralympic Week a success, not only as an event to give rise to potential athletes and new record-breakers but also as a stage of equality for all para-athletes to show their best abilities.

Let us compete in an atmosphere of brotherhood and fight with a spirit of sportsmanship. I would like to express my gratitude to the Government of Surakarta city and the people of Central Java province who had supported National Paralympic Week 2024.

By saying bismillahirrahmanirrahim, I hereby declare the XVII Peparnas open.
